Alternative Workplace

After a while of research, which objective was to find as possible more free or opensource software which can replace commercial software, i found these programs:

Open Source

Program name Alternative for Supported platforms Description
Open Office Microsoft Office
  • Windows
  • GNU/Linux
  • Solaris
  • Mac OS X
Very good alternative. But was some information that support of this project will be terminated in future. So we suggest to try another free solution which was added below to the list.
LibreOffice Microsoft Office
  • Windows
  • Linux
Today most recommended alternative software to replace MS Office.
GIMP Adobe Photoshop
  • GNU/Linux
  • Mac OS X
  • Microsoft Windows
  • FreeBSD
  • Solaris
  • AmigaOS 4
Good alternative for non-professional
Inkscape Corel Draw
  • Windows
  • Mac OS X
  • FreeBSD
  • Unix-like operating systems
Far this is not a clone of Corel Draw, but IMHO best possible free alternative to work with vector graphics. It works with SVG format with which you can easily exchange your created works with commercial software. Possible to find video tutorials (eg. on youtube), to learn to work with this tool.
SharpDevelop Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Windows

A very good alternative for Microsoft Visual Studio. Supports all .NET frameworks, also easy to convert .NET projects from one .NET framework to the another. Has build in profiler (only Visual Studio Enterprise versions have it).

Doesn't support Visual Studio setup projects, but has own setup solution. Like almost all opensource software, this software uses very small ammound of HDD space, eg. download package file size about 20MB!

Blender 3D Studio Max
  • Windows
  • OS X
  • SunOS
  • SGI Irix
  • Ubuntu
  • Debian
It's not a clone of 3D Studio Max, but most powerful, free 3D modelling software. This software user interface (UI) is very different from Windows and from original 3D Studio Max ( it has MacOS style UI). Also on the internet exist a lot of video tutorials how to work with Blender.
Magic Disk aka MagicISO DAEMON Tools
  • Windows
It's very good, very lightweight alternative for only partially free CD emulation software like DAEMON tools. Program has very small size, don't use a lot of computer resources. It also can manage to convert one CD image format to the another or to make CD images.
InfranView  ACDSee
  • Windows
Good alternative for ACDSee. Using small ammount of disk space.

Later this list will be updated and added more software.
